vSphere 5 vCenter – Check New Notifications tasks are queued

When you log on to your vCenter server and you see a long list of queued of “Check new notifications” tasks with the status of queued you will probably wonder how do does this happen and what to do?

The tasks are initiated by “VMware vSphere Update Manager Check Notification” so you’ll have to restart that service on the Windows server running the vCenter.

  • Log on by RDP to that server
  • Go to Start, Run and type services.msc
  • Scroll down to the VMware vSphere Update Manager Service
  • Restart the service

When you look at your vCenter tasks, they will now run and the tasks should be completed now.
